ABSTRACT
Introduction/Background: A forty years old female, vegetarian, residing at Jaipur, presented to outpatient department with chief complaints of Sthaulyata (increasing body weight) associated with Swash Kasta (breathlessness) especially on walking and sometime associated with palpitation on walking. The patient admitted to IPD of Hospital and after thorough clinical examinations and investigations; diagnosed as a case of Sthaulya (obesity) and was treated with Ayurvedic intervention and life style modification. Material and Methods: The patient treated with Ayurvedic intervention in the form of Abhyanga, Swedana and use of Shaman Aushadhi, Yoga and Ahar-Vihar (diet and lifestyle) modifications. Results: Patient’s weight reduced to 98 Kg from 127 Kg and B.M.I. from 49.6 to 38.3 along with significant improvement in sign and symptoms, B.M.I., anthropometric measurements and laboratory investigations in two month. Discussion: Considering Sthaulya (Obesity) as Medo-avaran Janya Santarpanotha Vikara, modification of Aahara-Vihara (diet and life style), regulating sleep hours and pattern, advising regular preplanned exercise, yoga and walking coupled with application of Abhyanga, Swedana, Shaman Aushadhi, all together produced multidimensional effect on the disease to give good result. Conclusion: Significant improvement in presenting complains made her physically more active and led to development of positive thinking towards her health and motivated her to become healthier and more active in future. These Changes improved her quality of life.
