Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction( Background):Asrigdara is common menstrual disorder affecting women adversely at physical as well as psychological level. Asrigdara is defined as excessive or prolonged menstrual bleeding with or without intermenstrual bleeding. In modern science Asrigdara can be correlated with dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB). Various medical and surgical options are available for treatment and cure. Medical option include hormonal treatment and non hormonal therapies like NSAIDS, anti-fibrinolytic agent etc. Surgical methods used for treatment are dilatation and curettage, endometrial ablation and hysterectomy. Limited outcome and associated side effects motivates researchers to explore safe avenues in Ayurvedic System of medicine. In Classical Ayurvedic text many preparations have been described for treatment and management of Asrigdara, the present study was done to compare the efficacy Patrangasava and Jeerakavaleha with Nisha lauha as iron supplement with both drugs.
Material and Methods:The clinical study was carried out in 34 patients who were randomly divided into two groups. 17 patients in group I were given Patrangasava and Nisha lauha and 17 patients in group II were given Jeerakavaleha and Nisha lauha. Patients were called after one month for three consecutive cycles for clinical and symptomatic assessment. Fourth follow up was done after medicine was discontinued to assess the recurrence and side effect, if any.
Result & Discussion- Overall effect of therapy revealed highly significant results in duration, amount, intensity and Hb gm% in group I and highly significant results in duration, interval, intensity and Hb gm% in group II. Group I patients showed more percentage relief than Group II which was not statistically significant. It was observed that patients tolerated the treatment quite well and there was no adverse effect noted during the course of trial.

Key words: Keywords- Asrigdara, DUB, Jeerakavaleha, Nisha Lauha, Patrangasava
