Abstract
Introduction
Being a unique health care system, Ayurveda focuses on each subtle factor directly / indirectly contributing to the health & illness. It particularizes the importance of examinations of individual (Parikshabhavas) as the important diagnostic criteria. Desha is one among them, which includes the examination of the biogeographical regions (Bhumi Desha) and the physical examination of patient (Dehadesha). It must be observed to determine Hetu (cause) & management in diseased. Also, must observed to determine the wholesome in terms of Ahara & other factors in health.
Method
It is a conceptual study comprised of the review of the available literature in Ayurveda classical texts, relevant modern literature & authentic publications including scientific journals & research articles to develop the concept.
Result/Discussion
Presently several studies have been going on to explore the influence of various meteorological factors on transmission of SARS-CoV-2 across the world. In our classical texts Desha term is used to represents as Disha means direction & Desha means place (Bhumidesha & Dehadesha or Aturdesha). Bhumi Desha represents the geoclimatic factor since its deals with climate of an area also. So, it is one of the key variables that are essential to be examined in each case of COVID -19 prior to begin with its treatment. Since it must be remembering that management of disease varies person to person living in different geoclimatic regions. Desha Parikshana specially of Bhumidesha (biogeographical habitat) offers us insights into several clinically important points regarding the patient e.g. his birthplace, diet etc.so plays an important role in determining diagnosis, prognosis & management of diseases.
Conclusion
Present study aimed to explore the concept of Bhumidesha & its importance as prophylactic & therapeutic measures in present pandemic situation. It has been found that most of our classical texts emphasize on Desha playing exclusively key role in context of health and illness both. However, no single factor individually can well explain in context to present health crisis, but concept of Desha may contribute some role to the prevention, treatment, non-recurrence of this disease & management of health as well.
