YOGA AND CORRECTION OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOUR: A PRELIMINARY REPORT

K. S. JOSHI.

Abstract
Yoga. The Indian heritage is receiving a worldwide attention. Its various specialized concepts are being scientifically explored to benefit suffering humanity. Yoga explains the entire human behavior on the bases of five inborn tendencies or attitudes called Kleshas. These tendencies are always at the root of conflict and tension. The aim of Yoga is to control these Kleshas reducing their influence on human mind. Criminal behavior is attributed to these Kleshas. Keeping this in view, and the preaching’s of Yoga in totality, the effect of a schedule of Yoga teachings and practices has been tried to modify the behavior of a group of criminal convicts in the Central Jail at Thane. After a 12-week course encouraging improvement in the behavior of the participants to the course was noted.
